Whispers of a Common Past

In 2013 I worked on a project with the Greek NGO Diadrasis called 'Whispers of a Common Past'. You can check some of the major conclusions of the project here. The project was an amazing collaboration between Greek and Turkish organizations in order to identify common intangible heritage traditions of descendants from the 1923 exchange of populations.

Bundesverband Deutsche Startups, 2015

Startup Camp Berlin, Focus Camp on Social Entrepreneurship

In October of 2014 I started a job with the Bundesverband Deutsche Startups (BVDS). I was hesitant to begin this kind of work because I'm not a lover of the business growth money-hungry loons that are associated with 'startups'. But, after a while, I began to realize that there are some people who feel the same way as I do--that 'entrepreneurship' can be used to do something good rather than associated with negative work only aimed at creating the next innovative disruptive technology or landing an enormous deal with little thought on sustainability or social change. Through my work at the BVDS I was able to meet some pretty incredibly social entrepreneurs, who have founded charitable organizations or who power websites based on helping people rather than focusing on personal gain. This path led me into co-organizing the Startup Camp Berlin, which is a huge 1000 attendee / 180 speaker event with 11 focus tracks this year including social entrepreneurship and female founders--the first ever. The camp was an absolute success and helped to create a new network of social entrepreneurs in Berlin who finally felt connected to the greater startup scene. Our work is only just beginning, but it was such an excellent platform to invite so many changers.
